Det var onsdag kveld 17. desember 2020 at 13 år gamle Dhenujen Yogathas var i ferd med å krysse Maria Dehlis vei mellom Grorud og Haugenstua i Oslo sammen med noen venner.
En bil kom i svært høy hastighet og kjørte på gutten, som ble kastet rundt 40 meter av gårde inn en annen bil, ifølge tiltalen.

I fengslingsmøtet noen dager etter påkjørselen forklarte mannen at det var mørkt, vått og glatt den aktuelle kvelden.
– Min klient har forklart at han fikk panikk. Han var under etterforskning for ruspåvirket kjøring tidligere og hadde ikke gyldig førerkort, noe som kan ha bidratt til panikken, sa forsvareren, advokat Harald Fjeldstad, til TV 2.

Hendelsen preget nærmiljøet, og kort tid etter påkjørselen ble det avholdt en markering utenfor Furuset Senter til minne om 13 -åringen.
